meeting minutes for 4-2-08

ok everyone.  here are the details for the KY trip -
we are leaving TOMORROW.

the plan is to meet behind finch fieldhouse at 5:30 pm
tomorrow, and to be on the road by 6.  we are taking 3
vehicles and these are the drivers:  ryan, brad, and
nick.  in ryan’s car, he is taking adam dunn, neil,
marina.  brad is taking sophie, nicki, casey and matt
christensen.  nick is taking me, jon crain, jon and
lori, jeanne, and jeannie’s brother.  if you have
questions and need to call the driver, ryan’s number
is 231-357-0568.  brad’s # is 810-241-1193.  nick’s #
is 248-770-8589.  i am currently not giving out my
phone number, so i am sorry to all the single males
who have broken hearts over this.

we have made tent/sleeping arrangements, and so if you
have a tent, bring it.  if not, there are probably
spaces available.  call ryan if not sure.  

we plan to return sunday at 2:00 at the latest, to be
back at 10-11 pm.  make sure you bring some food for
lunches and we will probably be eating pizza for
dinner at miguel’s.  ( i think we are staying at
miguel’s).  Bring any climbing gear you will need, and
quickdraws or rope if you have them.

ALSO IMPORTANT!!  Bring CASH for gas money and food. 
(or checkbook).  we need to make sure everyone pays
during the trip so we don’t have to track people down
later.

hello fellow climbers – (toenails optional),

here are the meeting minutes ON TiME.
ryan says welcome back from spring break. happy birthday to jimmy who is 21 today. everyone should call jimmy tomorrow at 7 a.m. because he probably won’t have a hangover.

Spring break! was last week – sorry if you missed it. i hope you didn’t accidentally go to class. Dave, Elliott, Brad and others went to Tennessee to climb because it was rainy and snowy in kentucky. [insert bad pickup line about "you're the only ten i see" here].

Jacquie injured her right thumb also, so we match now. Also, the hair on jacquie’s legs is now a healthy 3/4″ in length. I’ll keep you posted on the weekly growth reports.

This weekend there is a climbing competition at GVSU. There is more info at the climbing wall, or at gvsu.edu. or ask me because i have details. I have decided NOT to go, but good luck to anyone who is planning on going! last year ryan got 1st or 2nd i think in his division, so that gives you a pretty good idea of the level of competition at these things (weak sauce).

This friday! at ward theater on main street, downtown there is an Acoustic Brew – which means FREE live music, FREE food and coffee, comfortable seats, and good conversation which is also free (although some people.. honestly.. like matt christensen, should not be encouraged to talk even more than they ALREADY do). This event will be from 7-10 pm, and you will love it, so you better go. i am!

So Ryan decided that people should go to KY to climb a lot because KY is awesome. There are 3 trips planned coming up soon. Here are the dates of the trips planned:
March 20-23, April 4-6, April 18-20. They are all on the weekend, and people will be leaving Thursday night for each one. Let Ryan know which trip/trips you plan to go on. I am planning on going to the April 4th trip, and I think there are quite a few other people who want to go that weekend too. The more people that go, the less everyone will have to spend on gas $$.

Ryan says everyone should attend next week’s meeting if possible because its going to be an important one. no pressure or anything ryan. it better be worth it.

so apparently there is going to be a special habitat for my hangboard tomorrow at my house sometime between 4-8 pm. its kind of like the non-amish version of a barn raising. show up if you want to, its going to be an exciting event!! I plan on doing some stud-finding. if anyone knows where i can find some studs, be sure to let me know. i have heard that finding the studs is the hardest part of this process. i mean, really, where do you usually find them?

here are the minutes for your enjoyment.

Natasha and Ryan invented a new kind of hippie cookie which was brought to the meeting, and ryan ate like 10 of them.  i didn’t eat mine – i brought it home to leave it on the counter until it hardens, then i plan to somehow incorporate it into a hemp necklace.

i would like to point out that although jon crain is not a doctor, neither am i – evident by my misdiagnosis of injury.  its not a 1st proximal interphalageal sprain, but rather a 1st metacarpophalangeal sprain of the ulnar collateral ligament.  there are actually only a proximal and distal phalange for the 1st digit, so there is only one interphalangeal joint, as opposed to a proximal and distal.  i deeply apologize to jon crain and to anyone else who laid awake agonizing over this fictitious body part.

Jimmy has a shoe fund donation jar on the front table.  there is currently 11 cents in the fund.  if you have any cans or bottles you would like to donate, im sure jimmy would appreciate them.

over spring break, some people are planning a trip to KY to the red river gorge to do some climbing.  Dave, Jon, Brad, Marina, Clay, Elliott and others are going.  contact dave if interested :  sadle1dc@cmich.edu  i think they are going thurs-sun at the end of spring break.

Jimmy wants to go to a different planet – planet rock, that is.  in ann arbor.. sometime.  and russ lives on a different planet, so he will probably be there too.

a shout out to CHELSEA hummus, i mean hummon!  rumor is that chelsea was previously not reading the meeting minutes, but now she is again.  so HELLO CHELSEA!  WE MiSS YOU!

On March 15, there is a climbing comp at GVSU.  i have more details about the comp if you are interested, and im planning on going.  also, march 16 there is a comp at U of M.

Since Feb. is hair month, we took a picture of hair.  the award for ‘Best Moustache of February’ goes to …………..(drumroll)………………….Jon Crain.  His prize was a pack of cheap razors.  I wish he would donate them to jacquie. 
anyways, he gave a speech.  he said he would like to thank Dan Koefoed because he is his roommate and without him he would not be here today.  because he got him hooked on climbing.  Congrats, Jon!

We took our club picture last meeting.  hopefully this will be posted soon.  send jon your picture if you missed it and want to be photoshopped in.

i would like to point out that jon crain is obviously not a doctor because he misdiagnosed my injury – its actually not a broken hand, but rather a 1st proximal interphalangeal sprain. but i have found that i can still climb, considering that 90% of my fingers still work. so you guys can’t get rid of me that easily; i know some of you would like to.

and also, i would like to formally apologize for always sending the minutes out late – at least i am consistent! but i’m sorry if you guys miss out on events because of it. i would like to nominate jon crain for secretary after i leave, since he seems to have the time, energy, thumbs, and computer to fit the role.

ok, so ryan started the meeting off by saying that he had a bunch of important info.

At the end of spring break, Dave and Elliot and others are planning a trip to KY in the red river gorge for some sweet climbing. i believe they plan to go Thurs-Sun. contact dave at sadle1dc(at)cmich.edu if you are interested, or if you want to send him hate mail, which i have the urge to do sometimes.

March 15, there will be a pathfinder climbing competition at GVSU. i’m planning on going. more info to come later.

There are also a couple other climbing comps that we have info on. March 16th there will be a climbing comp at UofM from 10:30-1. it is $10 in advance, $15 at the door. registration is at 10 a.m. call 734-764-3967 for more info or visit the website www.recsports.umich.edu/outdooradv.

there is another comp at planet rock i believe 2 days – Feb 23 and March 15, don’t know- the flier was kind of confusing. your best bet is to visit the website www.planet-rock.com for details.

IMPORTANT: at next week’s meeting, BRiNG YOUR ON BELAY SHiRT, or buy one if you still want one ($12). we will be taking a club PHOTO. matt christensen, please do not show up this day because i don’t feel like cleaning up shattered glass from a broken camera. ryan and other hippies, please shower that day. oh, and jon crain, i think it would be a good idea for you to stand in back because we want all the good looking people in the front – it makes us look better and will help us attract more people to the club.

Oh yeah, i forgot to mention before that february is facial hair month and we are all growing it out. supposedly there is some reason for this. anyways, mine is getting pretty long.

ryan brought a hula hoop to the meeting. he says that it will be available for those who want to use it when he isn’t using it.

next week we are taking a picture of hair.

If you didn’t go to Midland last saturday (feb. 9) you missed out on some sweet climbing, route setting, and gordo’s bald beanie. he says thank you to all who came to help.

last thursday, people came to volunteer at the climbing wall because the board of trustees came through. at least im assuming they did, because i wasn’t there. i hear that matt christensen came and climbed in his business suit because (and i quote) “its business, its business tiiime.”

for spring break, people are planning trips. dave and elliot are thinking about heading down to the red river gorge in KY, so talk to them if interested.

on saturday, feb. 15th i was the lone representative at the inside moves climbing comp in grand rapids. i got first place in the women’s (not men’s) intermediate division, and i won a hangboard!!! matt christensen doesn’t know this yet, but i have volunteered him to help me put it up in my house! thanks in advance!
so you guys missed out. i had a great time and got to climb with some other good climbers. next competition that i know of is at GVSU March 15, so put that on your calendar.

oh crap, this is outdated, but the ACS drank liquid nitrogen and ate ice cream last week in the dow building. sorry, i am a bad secretary. i will try to get the minutes out sooner.

hey hippies, townies, soul mates, friends, and matt christensen (not applicable to any other category):

here are the meeting minutes for your reading pleasure.

Natasha brought brownies to the meeting and they were outstanding.  i ate three of them.  i would have eaten 4 but i am watching my waistline, and restrained myself.

on valentines day, volunteers are needed from 10:30-11:30 am. at the climbing wall to climb on the walls and the challenge course because the board of trustees is coming through and wants to see people using it.  if you aren’t doing anything, you should come to the climbing wall!

people went to ice fest last weekend; matt, brad, casey and others.
somebody climbed without their shirt. i hope it was not matt christensen.

ATTENTION!! THIS WEEKEND (SATURDAY, FEB. 9) come to midland to help set routes at gordo’s climbing wall at the midland community center.  free climbing for those who help also there will be pizza, probably with hummus on it, and we will talk about having  a “social” afterwards.  if you want to come, meet behind finch fieldhouse at 4:00pm on saturday to car pool.  they will be setting routes from 5-9 pm.  i think gordo may also be there, and i apologize in advance for this.

ryan saw something he never wants to see again in his life, so he will be rappelling to his death in finch fieldhouse.

NEXT WEEKEND!!! there will be a climbing comp (Feb 16) 11-4pm. at inside moves in grand rapids.  you should go, because i am!  there is more info at the wall, so pick up a flier.

next weekend casey is bringing food.  if he doesn’t bring food he is kicked out of the club.

ryan started the meeting by being glad that everyone is back.

Gordo’s competition 2 weeks ago was a success. Jon Crain and I both got 2nd place in our divisions. congrats jon.
now that the comp. is over, gordo wants to put routes back up on the wall in midland. if you are interested in helping, let him know a weekend that would work for you to help. email bruur1jr@cmich.edu, or call between the hours of 2-4 a.m.

The weekend of Feb 1-3, there will be some ice climbing up at the Munising Ice Festival. Word is that rentals will be fairly inexpensive for gear. Talk to B-rad for more info. The High Adventure club is also going, I believe, so you could also contact them.

ryan went to africa over break as some kind of ‘pre-marriage’ courting ritual. he will bring in pics to show, because we all like seeing pictures of hippies.

Will is officially fired from culinary architect, and is actually required to pay fines in emotional damage, as well as physical damage for the lack of food provided at meetings. i plan to send him my psychiatric bills. feel free to do the same.
anyways, we are going to bring snacks on a sign-up basis, and it looks like Katelyn Carter was gracious enough to sign up for next week’s meeting. thanks!

If you still want a t-shirt, ryan still has some left – i think they are around $12.00. they have been sitting in his vehicle, so they probably smell of hummus and hemp, which i think only adds to their value.

If you have interest in learning any kind of climbing skills, such as lead climbing, anchor building, cleaning anchors, etc., talk to ryan after meetings.

If have ‘Bob’ written down, not sure why.

hello all.

at this week’s meeting, I accepted ryan’s proposal.
to have our meeting next week wednesday at 8:00.

Natasha brought chocolate chip cookies and they were amazing. really. amazing. i ate two of them.

ryan announced the big news that 1) it is cold outside, and 2) Christmas is coming.

THIS SATURDAY!!!! (2 days from now) people are going to Planet Rock in Ann Arbor! They will be leaving at 10:00 a.m. saturday (dec. behind Finch Fieldhouse and carpooling. i am going, so you should too! Tim Anderson and Adam M. are leading the trip. jimmy is going too, and some other people.

Next week is finals week, so the wall will only be open on wednesday from noon-10 pm. (our meeting is at 8:00 pm).

Matt Christensen might be taking a trip to Arkansas over xmas break for some sport climbing. he is, however, leaving from minnesota, so you will have to find your own way to get there if you want to go.

Elliot wants to have an On Belay “social.” since he wasn’t at the meeting, I nominated his house for the party. maybe sometime next week? we haven’t set a date yet. when we do, i’ll create a facebook invite and send out an email.

Gordo is still having a lame bouldering comp in midland in january. so keep january open.
